UK Consumer Confidence Stable In October - Nationwide

(RTTNews) - British consumer confidence remained unchanged in October, the Nationwide Building Society said Wednesday.

The consumer confidence index stood at 72 in October, unchanged from September’s revised reading. The expectations index dropped to 106 from 108, while the present situation index climbed to 22 from 19. The spending index was stable at 103.

“While overall confidence among consumers remained static during October we did see some small adjustments to consumers’ perceptions of current employment and economic conditions, and their expectations of where these will be in six months’ time,” Nationwide’s Chief Economist Martin Gahbauer said. “There does appear to be a growing belief among consumers that, while the current situation is still somewhat downbeat, the future outlook is brighter.”
