Etrade Chief Steps Down - Is Trouble Brewing For Etrade Stocks?

By David Spurr on September 9, 2009 | More Posts By David Spurr | Author's Website

This is interesting. Etrade was a firm that was really two firms. It was a great brokerage and trading platform and a company that engaged in making mortgages. Unfortunately, the mortgage morass hurt them. I find it interesting that the Chairman is stepping down - and…..according to “The firm” (Layton)….He delivered on his recap and restructuring. It feels to me like he’s getting out before the storm hits again. He’s trying to write history as he leaves. He’s making the claim that all’s well with Etrade for NOW. We’ll see what happens when the waters get choppy again.
