Govt. Raises Borrowings For H1 By 24% This Fiscal- RBI Dy. Governor
(RTTNews) - The government has raised borrowings to Rs.2.99 lakh crore up from Rs.1.89 lakh crore for the first half of the year ending September 30, 2009, reports PTI, quoting Reserve Bank of India (RBI) deputy governor Shyamala Gopinath after a meeting with Finance Secretary Ashok Chawla and other officials. Earlier, the government estimated borrowing at Rs.2.41 lakh crore for the first half.
She said that there would be ample liquidity in the system which would ease concerns of disruption in the market that arose due to government borrowings. She added that the RBI would continue its operations as announced while commenting on open market operations through which it would either suck out or inject liquidity against government papers.
