(RTTNews) - U.K.’s quantitative easing is yet to show impact on bank lending, Bank of England policymaker Kate Barker reportedly said.

In an interview with the Hull Daily Mail, she said, “I wouldn’t have expected to see really major results yet in terms of banks being in a better position to start to lend.”

She noted that banks have improved their capital position after placing the quantitative easing programme, but a strong impact is expected in the next year.

According to the interview published on Wednesday’s edition, Barker said the BoE wants to see the British economy to return to growth through the year and not just stabilization. Barker expects the U.K. economy to start growing by the end of this year.

Moreover, she dispelled fears that increasing quantitative easing could lead to hyperinflation, as seen in countries such as Zimbabwe, the newspaper said.
