U.K. Industrial Production Unexpectedly Declines In May

(RTTNews) - U.K. industrial production unexpectedly dropped 0.6% in May from April, a report from the Office for National Statistics showed Tuesday. At the same time, manufacturing output decreased 0.5% compared to previous month. Economists were looking for a monthly growth of 0.2% each for industrial as well as manufacturing output.

With a decrease in oil and gas production, mining and quarrying output was down 2.1%, while energy supply output grew 1%.

On a yearly basis, industrial production and manufacturing output declined 11.9% and 12.7%, respectively. Economists were expecting an annual fall of 11.3% in industrial output and 11.8% drop in manufacturing.
