U.K. Shop Price Inflation Drops To 4-Month Low - BRC
(RTTNews) - The rate of shop price inflation in Great Britain fell to a four-month low in May, led by a sharp slowdown in fresh food prices.
The British Retail Consortium reported Wednesday that food price inflation in May increased 0.5% on month and 1.3 percent for the full year to May. Shop price inflation for April was down 0.5 percent on month and hit a 1.4 percent annualized rate.
The BRC said food prices increased 0.2 percent in May and 6.4 percent on year, the smallest full-year increase so far in 2009.
Non food prices were up 0.7 percent on month but down 1.3 percent on year. It was the sixth consecutive decline for the non-food category, attributed by the BRC to heavy discounts and a lower Value-added Tax rate.
