UK Consumer Confidence Up To -36 in August - GfK

(RTTNews) - An index measuring consumer confidence in Great Britain saw a surprise gain in August, research firm GfK NOP said on Friday, climbing to a reading of -36.

That’s up from the record low score of -39 posted in July, and it beat handily analyst expectations of a reading of -41. It marks the first improvement in the index since January.

Consumer perception of the general economic situation over the last year was stable at a low level of -69. Consumers were also less pessimistic about their personal financial situation over the next and last 12 months.

The index that measured whether or not it was a good time to save climbed one point to +21.
