Investing In Cleaner Energy

By Tom Lydon on June 9, 2008 | More Posts By Tom Lydon | Author's Website

As the price of crude oil is going off the charts, the push for alternative energy sources gears up and investing through exchange traded funds (ETFs) has never been more convenient. The so-called alternative energy or green movement involves using renewable energy sources such as sun, wind, rain, tides and geothermal heat for energy production reports ETF Guide.

Venture capitalists are circling the skies of alternative energy, but most investors would rather approach this investment opportunity through an ETF. Alternative energy has plenty of growing space, and the assets are at $5.84 billion as of now.

Some of the ETFs with a focus on clean energy include:

  • PowerShares Wilderhill Clean Energy Portfolio Fund (PBW)
  • Claymore/MAC Global Solar Energy (TAN)
  • Van Eck Global Alternative Energy (GEX)
  • First Trust Nasdaq Clean Edge (QCLN)
