Bayer CropScience US Launches New Website Focused On Bee Health
Bayer CropScience has launched a new bee health component of its U.S. Website, highlighting the important role bees play in agriculture and underscoring Bayer’s ongoing commitment to ensuring honey bee health. Visitors to the website can find out more about the important role bees and pollination play in agriculture, meet Bayer’s resident bee expert, learn how Bayer is working to protect honey bees and the ways Bayer’s product stewardship practices positively affect honey bee health. The new website may be viewed at http://www.bayercropscience.us/our-commitment/bee-health.
“As a company, Bayer has been committed to supporting bee health for over 25 years,” said Iain Kelly, Bayer CropScience Bee Health Lead. “As part of this commitment, we continue to collaborate with all stakeholders to develop products and strategies to fight those parasites and diseases affecting bees. We are very excited about launching this new online bee health portal, as it not only underscores Bayer’s dedication to sound product development and stewardship, but continues to drive the discussions about the important and complex role bees play in our backyards, our crop fields and on our planet.”
In the United States, approximately one-third of all the crops require insect pollination. Though not the only pollinating species, honey bees are important contributors to this process and as such are intrinsically tied to agriculture. Pollination also increases the yield and quality of many crops and its value has been estimated at about $205 billion (EUR 153 billion) worldwide.
To further promote bee health, Bayer also recently announced the initiation of its global “Bee Care Program.” As part of this initiative, two dedicated “Bayer Bee Care Centers” will be established. In Europe, one center is scheduled to open in mid-summer in Monheim, Germany, with a second center – which will focus on North America – planned for later this year in North Carolina. The Bee Care Program and the establishment of the Bee Care Centers will bring Bayer`s extensive experience and knowledge in bee health under one roof and will ensure that dedicated resources for bee health are available
Bayer CropScience is working with the agricultural communities worldwide to ensure the safe use of crop protection products which are essential to protect plants from pests and diseases. “At Bayer we take our responsibility to bee health very seriously,” said Sandra Peterson, Chief Executive Officer of Bayer CropScience. “We make great efforts to ensure that our products can be used in a bee-responsible manner. We do this through researching and extensive testing of our products, thorough risk assessment and the focused stewardship measures we have put in place. Our new U.S.-focused bee health website, as well as the plans to establish the two Bayer Bee Care Centers, further underline our commitment to global bee health.”
