Ford Motor Says China Division H1 Sales Up 53% – Update
(RTTNews) – Automobile maker Ford Motor Company (F) on Monday reported a significant growth in its Chinese division sales for the first six months of 2010, delivering its “best ever” first-half new vehicle sales.
For the first-half period, Ford China’s sales soared 53% year-on-year to 301,524 units. The company stated that record-setting performance delivered robust growth of 53% compared to sales figures from January to June 2009. Ford Motor noted that sales data of Volvo is included in the first half sales figures of Ford Motor China. Excluding Volvo, Ford Motor China sales totaled 285,991 units.
During the first six-month period, Dearborn, Michigan-based Ford Motor said it has delivered its “best ever” first-half new vehicle sales of 301,524 units in China. In the six-month period, sales at Changan Ford Mazda Automobile, Ford’s passenger car joint venture in China increased 46% to 205,563 units. First-half Ford passenger car sales surged 46% to 151,779 units.
Ford Motor China’s commercial vehicle investment, Jiangling Motors Corp., reported record sales of 88,363 units, with Ford Transit sales up 78% year-on-year to 25,227 units. In the 2010 first half, trendy compact car soared to 38,669 units, and a total of 86,053 Fiestas have been sold in China since the model was introduced last year.
The company stated that Ford Focus sales are continuing at a brisk pace, with over 10,000 units a month, on average, and the growth is anticipated to continue following the launch of 2011 Ford Focus in June, with two new models on offer and substantial enhancements in safety, environmental friendliness and comfort.
Ford Motor China Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert Grazian said, “The continued strong sales numbers are very rewarding for the entire Ford team, who are working hard to build great cars. We are very pleased that more and more Chinese consumers are choosing the stylish, fuel-efficient, high quality vehicles Ford and our joint ventures offer in China.”
Going forward, Graziano said, “Vehicle sales in China are expected to remain strong in the second half of 2010, with upgraded new products arriving this year, like the Ford Mondeo with 2.0-litre Ford EcoBoost engine and PowerShift transmission, and the new Ford Edge featuring MyFord Touch driver connect technology.”
In Friday’s regular trading session, F closed trading on the New York Stock Exchange at $10.28 per share, down $0.29 or 2.74%, on a volume of 71.61 million shares. In the past 52-week period, the stock traded in a range of $5.24 to $14.57, with a three-month average volume of 110.32 million shares.
