New Zealand March Visitor Arrivals, Departures Higher

(RTTNews) – International visits both to and from New Zealand increased sharply in March 2010 compared to one year earlier.

Statistics New Zealand reported Friday that the number of overseas visitor arrivals increased 7.0 percent versus March 2009.

Residents of New Zealand, meanwhile, departed on 13.0 percent more overseas trip in March compared to one year earlier.

For the year to March 2010, there were 2.499 million visitor arrivals, 98,400 more than in the year to March ’09.

Statistics NZ Population Statistics Manager Denise McGregor said in a statement that the “earlier timing of Easter and the school holidays, both in Australia and New Zealand, has resulted in more short-term travel to and from new Zealand in March 2010.

Net permanent and long-term migration, measured by arrivals minus departures, was 1,000 for March 2010, the agency said. For the year to March 2010, net migration was a gain of 21,000.
