Tourism Spending In New Zealand Rises In September
(RTTNews) - Friday, the Ministry of Tourism said spending by international visitors in New Zealand climbed 1.2% to NZ$ 6.1 billion in the year to September. “This increase is a good result given the 1.8% decline in international arrivals over the period,” said Bruce Bassett, Ministry of Tourism Research Manager.
According to Bassett, the last year covers the full duration of the global economic downturn, so to come through that period with a positive spend result was a very credible achievement. Spending by Australians increased 3.7%. Other markets also performed well due to the overall favorable exchange rates over the year, especially the US market.
Meanwhile, spending by tourists from Asian nations like Japan and South Korea declined in September, in line with the fall in arrivals. But spending by Chinese surged 32.4%.
