Austria August Trade Deficit Widens

(RTTNews) - Friday, Statistics Austria announced that the trade deficit stood at EUR 505.1 million in August, larger than the EUR 403.7 million shortfall recorded a year ago. Exports were down 20.2% year-on-year to EUR 6.6 billion in August, while imports dropped 18.1% to EUR 7.1 billion.

In the first eight months of the year, a trade deficit of EUR 2.5 billion was recorded compared to a modest EUR 283.8 million deficit in the previous year. During the period, exports plunged 23.8%, while imports were down 21%.

Austria had a deficit of EUR 547.32 million in its trade with the EU27 nations in August versus EUR 362.33 million a year ago. Exports to these nations were down 20.4% on-year, while imports fell 16.3%.
