New Zealand Q3 Wages Up, Employment Down
(RTTNews) - Wages and salaries in New Zealand increased modestly in the September 2009 quarter but the number of filled jobs decreased for the year, according to data released Tuesday by Statistics NZ.
The agency said salary and wage rates, including overtime, increased 0.5 percent from the June quarter.
Private sector wages and salaries were up 2.0 percent for the year to September 2009 and 0.4 percent from the preceding quarter while public sector salary and wage rates were up 2.9 percent on year and 1.1 percent on quarter.
The agency said the number of full time equivalent employees was down 3.5 percent for the full year to September 2009 while the number of filled jobs decreased 2.6 percent on year.
