Japan September Core CPI Down 2.3% On Year

(RTTNews) - Japan’s core inflation rate in September declined by 2.3 percent on year.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications reported Friday that the drop in the core Consumer Price Index compared to a decline of 2.4 percent in August.

Overall national CPI was down 2.4 percent in September, compared to a decline of 2.2 percent for August.

The core CPI figure excludes fresh food items. When excluding both food and energy prices, consumer prices declined 1.0 percent on month.

In the Tokyo metropolitan area, considered a leading indicator for the national picture, core CPI was down 2.2 percent when excluding food, down 1.4 percent excluding food and energy and down 2.4 percent overall.

The Tokyo overall CPI was revised downward to 2.1 percent for August.
