Australia August Leading Economic Index Up 1.8% - Conference Board

(RTTNews) - In another sign that Australia’s economy is warming up, the Conference Board reported Thursday that it’s leading economic index for the country increased 1.8 percent in August.

The Conference Board also said it upwardly revised the index for recent months, as new data became available.

The board said strength among the components making up the leading index “have remained widespread” in recent months, with its six month growth rate continuing to accelerate. The increase in the six month rate is the largest since September 1997.

The board’s Coincident Index, which measures current economic activity, fell 0.2 percent in August.
