New Zealand Job Growth Slows In June 2008 Year

(RTTNews) - Growth in New Zealand’s employment continued in the year to June, but at a slower pace than the previous year.

Statistics NZ reported Thursday that the number of filled jobs increased 2.2 percent in the year to June 2008.

That compares with a growth rate of 2.5 percent in the year to June 2007.

The slower growth in filled jobs was attributed to changes in the number of filled jobs in the construction and manufacturing industries.

Statistics NZ also said average quarterly earnings increased 5.5 percent for the June 2008 year, the largest increase in quarterly earnings for a June year since record keeping began in June 1999.

The agency publishes the employment report on a full-year lag in timing.
