Romania Trade Deficit Decreases In May

(RTTNews) - Friday, Romania’s National Institute of Statistics said the trade deficit narrowed to 2.95 billion lei in May from 3.6 billion lei in April. A year earlier, the deficit was 6.6 billion lei.

Exports dropped 13.7% annually to 9.5 billion lei, while imports fell 29.5% to 12.45 billion lei. Compared to the previous month, exports rose 5.1%, while imports declined 1.9%.

In euro terms, the trade deficit decreased to EUR 704.7 million in May from EUR1.8 billion last year. Exports dipped 25.2% annually to EUR2.27 billion, while imports fell 38.9% to EUR2.97 billion. On a monthly basis, exports rose 5.9%, while imports were down 1.1%.

For the first five months of the year, the trade deficit stood at 15.36 billion lei or EUR 3.6 billion.
