Poll Finds Best Job Market Conditions In The South, Worst In The West
(RTTNews) - While the results of a new Gallup Poll released Thursday found that job creation in the Southern U.S. exceeded job loss by 2 percentage points in June, job creation in the West trailed job loss by 11 percentage points.
Nationwide, the poll found that job loss topped job creation by about 3 percentage points. This compares to last June, when job creation was 20 percentage points higher than job loss.
In the South, job creation has ranged between 26% and 27%, as opposed to a 23% to 26% range for job loss. Last year, job creation in the South topped job loss by 39% to 17%.
The poll found the Midwest job creation and loss tied at 24% each. In the March survey, job creation had been at 20% while job loss had been at 29%.
Meanwhile, the East saw job creation at 24% compared to a 26% job loss. Last year, the numbers were dramatically different, with job creation at 36% and job loss at 16%.
Finally, in the West, job creation was at the lowest for any region in the country at 19%. Meanwhile, job loss was at 30%, the highest in the country.
Based on the numbers, Gallup said, “The current situation, in which job creation actually trails job loss, reflects the continuing deterioration in the job market nationwide.”
“Even more disturbing than the continued overall decline,” Gallup added, “is the job situation in the West, with the rate of job loss exceeding that of job creation by 11 percentage points.”
Gallup stated that the situation in the West “suggests that job-market conditions there are still deteriorating at a rapid pace - one that continues to far exceed that of the other regions of the nation.”
The assessment of the job market was based on aggregated interviews with a nationally representative random sample of approximately 250 adults aged 18 or older each day
