French Industrial Output Unexpectedly Rises In May

(RTTNews) - French industrial output unexpectedly rose in May as production of coke and refined petroleum logged strong increase together with a rise in manufacture of transport equipment.

Industrial production rose 2.6% month-on-month in May, data released by the statistical office INSEE showed Friday, defying forecasts for a 0.2% decline.

At the same time, the statistical agency revised down April’s fall to show a decline of 1.5% instead of a previously reported drop of 1.4%.

In the manufacturing sector, output grew 2.4% in May from April, more than the expected growth of 0.4%.
