Italian Q1 Govt. Deficit To GDP Ratio At 9.3%

(RTTNews) - The Italian government’s deficit to GDP ratio stood at 9.3% in the first quarter compared to 2.6% in the fourth quarter, the statistical office ISTAT said Thursday.

The primary debt, which is debt net of interest expenses, stood at EUR16.86 billion in the first quarter, compared to a debt of EUR3.13 billion in the same quarter last year. The primary debt stood at 4.6% of GDP in the first quarter compared to 0.8% last year. In the fourth quarter, the primary surplus was 2.6% of GDP.

The current account showed a deficit of EUR21.9 billion in the first quarter, compared to a deficit of EUR11.25 billion in the previous year. The current account deficit was 6% of GDP in the first three months of the year.
