Stocks See Initial Strength But Buying Interest Remains Subdued - U.S. Commentary
(RTTNews) - Stocks moved modestly higher at the start of trading on Monday, with the major averages all moving into positive territory after turning in a mixed performance last week. Nonetheless, buying interest has remained somewhat subdued ahead of the holiday weekend.
Benefiting from a notable increase by the price of oil, energy stocks are turning in some of the best performances in early trading. While metal and housing stocks are also seeing early strength, health insurance stocks have come under considerable selling pressure.
In the past few minutes, the major averages have pulled back well off their highs for the young session, although they are currently posting modest gains. The Dow is currently up 10.65 at 8,449.04, the Nasdaq is up 0.68 at 1,838.90 and the S&P 500 is up 0.45 at 919.35.
