(RTTNews) - Ireland consumer confidence index increased to 53.4 in June from 45.5 in May, a survey conducted by KBC Bank Ireland and the Economic and Social Research Institute or ESRI showed Monday. A year earlier, the index was 42.2.

Among the two sub indices, consumer expectations based on perception of their future financial situation, economic outlook and employment expectations improved to 39.1 in June from 23.8 in May.

However, consumers’ perception of their current situation decreased to 74.6 in June from 77.7 in May. This is mainly due to consumers becoming more negative perception of the current buying climate, the ESRI said.

David Duffy, ESRI said, “the consumer sentiment improved as consumers adopted a more positive outlook for the next 12 months.”
