Macau Consumer Price Inflation Rises In March

(RTTNews) - Macau’s composite consumer prices rose 2.35% year-on-year in March, at a faster pace compared to a 1.83% rise in February, a report by the Statistics and Census Service or DSEC said Tuesday.

Food and non-alcoholic beverage prices climbed 12.93%, reflecting double-digit rise in prices of rice, fruits and vegetables, fresh fish and canned meat. At the same time, clothing and footwear prices were up 9.49%. Price of miscellaneous goods and services as also health increased 4.64% and 4.51% respectively.

On the other hand, price of transport fell 8.8%, due to lower gasoline prices, while price of education slipped 7.49% due to an increase in tuition subsidy.

Month-on-month, the composite consumer prices were up 0.43% in March, following a 1.3% fall in February.

In the first quarter, consumer prices increased 3.3% compared to the corresponding period last year.

For the twelve months ended March, the composite consumer prices climbed 7.11% from the same period in the previous year.
