Australia Home Sales Climb for Second Month Straight, Says HIA

(CEP News) - The Australian housing market gained for the second month straight in February, according to the Housing Industry Association in Australia.

New home sales were up 3.1% from the month prior, after sales grew 8.3% in January.

“The project home building market is gaining much-needed stimulus from low variable mortgage rates and from the boost to the First Home Owners Grant,” said HIA Chief Economist, Dr Harley Dale.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics will be releasing building approvals for February on Wednesday (Tuesday night EDT). Approvals are expected to have declined by 1.5% on a monthly basis, and by a whopping 30.0% from February 2008.
