Chile Consumer Price Inflation Slows In 2008
(RTTNews) - Tuesday, Chile’s National Institute of Statistics reported that the consumer price index, or CPI rose 7.1% year-over-year in December, slower than the 8.9% recorded in the previous year. Economists were looking for an increase of 7.7%.
During the period, prices for clothing and transport charges decreased by 0.3% and 6.4% respectively. Housing prices rose 0.8%.
In December, the CPI declined 1.2% month-on-month versus 0.1% fall in November. Economists had predicted a decrease of 0.6%.
For the whole year in 2008, consumer prices grew 7.1%, slower than the 7.8% recorded in the previous year.
