New Zealand’s October Electronic Card Spending Growth Slows

(RTTNews) - The total value of electronic card spending in New Zealand rose a seasonally adjusted 0.5% in October, compared to the previous month of September, which recorded a 0.8% rise, a report by Statistics New Zealand said Friday.

During the month, there were 90 million electronic transactions, which were valued at NZ$4.8 billion.

The value of the card spending for retailing rose a seasonally adjusted 0.5% in October, after remaining flat in the previous month. The statistical agency said while electronic card spending for durables, consumables and apparel industries experienced the largest increases, spending on fuel retailing was the only industry to record a decrease.

Electronic card spending for the core retail industry, which excludes motor vehicles related industries, grew 1% in October, in contrast to the 0.3% fall in the previous month.
