Estonia Retail Sales Declines Further In September
(RTTNews) - Friday, a report by Statistics Estonia said retail sales of goods in retail enterprises at constant prices dropped 8% year-on-year in September compared with a 6% decline in August.
The report said the downward trend in retail sales that began last year continued in September also, owing mainly to high inflation, melt down in economy, and a decline in consumer confidence. In March, the retail sales turned negative year-on-year for the first time.
Among the different types of stores, retail sales declined the most in stores selling manufactured goods. In these types of stores, retail sales declined 12%. Retail sales in grocery stores dipped 3% mainly due to rise in food prices and the resulting drop in consumption. Retail sales also fell in stores selling household goods and appliances, hardware and building materials.
On a monthly basis, retail sales fell 7% at constant prices in September compared with a 4% decline in August. Revenues from retail trade enterprises totaled 5.3 billion kroons, with retail sales of goods accounting for 85% of total sales.
Meanwhile, at current prices, retail sales dropped 1% year-on-year and 6% on a monthly basis.
