India’s April-June Current Account Deficit Widens
(RTTNews) - India’s current account deficit widened to US$10.7 billion in April-June from a deficit of US$6.3 billion in the same period of the previous year, a report from the Reserve Bank of India showed Tuesday.
The trade deficit increased to US$31.6 billion during first three months of the financial year 2008-09 from US$20.7 billion deficit registered in the same period last year. Exports of goods rose 22.2% year-on-year, compared with a 20.7% growth recorded in the previous year. Exports were valued US$43.7 billion.
On the other hand, imports surged 33.3% compared with a 21.1% rise in the corresponding period last year. Imports totaled US$75.3 billion.
