European Economics Preview: UK Retail Sales Data Due

(RTTNews) - Thursday, UK’s retail sales and public sector finance reports are expected to dominate the newsflow from European economies.

At 2.15am ET, Switzerland’s trade balance for July is due from the Federal Customs Administration. The trade surplus totaled CHF 1.57 billion in June.

Thereafter, the Statistics Norway is slated to release the GDP data for the second quarter. The Mainland Norway had contracted 1% sequentially in the first quarter. Economists now forecast the economy to shrink 0.3% in the second quarter.

At 4.30am ET, British retail sales and public sector finance reports are due from the Office for National Statistics. Retail sales are forecast to grow 0.4% month-on-month in July, slower than the 1.2% rise seen in June. Meanwhile, the public sector net borrowing is seen at GBP 0.6 billion in July.

In the meantime, the Bank of England is set to release the preliminary report for M4 money supply. After falling 0.2% in June, M4 money supply is forecast to rise 0.2% in July. Annual growth is seen at 13.3%.
