Francois Hollande’s victory doesn’t and shouldn’t mean a movement toward socialism…
Give me an example Robert of when capitalism willingly spread the benefits of productivity around the society. The Great Depression ended when WWII forced the government into socialism which elevated taxes and controlled profits and wages, etc. so that workers’ (those that survived) standard of living went up, higher education was made available to more people etc.
Right now nations are competing for natural resources. Free trade and the absence of tariffs has made it difficult for many millions to find gainful employment etc.
Capitalism just isn’t working for most Europeans and even failing in the USA. Turning socialist for awhile – despite it’s inefficiency and curbs on freedom – is the only way to spread productivity benefits around.
The british and the americans divided by a common language. What you advocate is what we, on this side of the pond call socialism. What you call socialism we call communist totalinarianism. Until americans understand better the true meanings of “anarchy” and “socialism” as developed in Britain (and other places) in the 19th century the world will remain a poorer place.
