Tax China To Fix Our Problems? Trump Says YES!

By Michael Kudrna on | More Posts By | Author's Website

Donald Trump seems to have a solution to many of our problems. Tax China’s imports to us until they play fair.  He makes some great arguments on the Kudlow Report but, it will surely have some short-term pain for some US companies that rely on these imports.  However, no matter what choice we make, we will have pain and it appears to me that America desperately needs to export more without devaluing our currency to do so.  This would require taxing China to ensure they fairly value their currency putting us on a more level playing field.

Trump believes China is laughing at us because they can’t believe what they are getting away with and I would laugh at us too as we don’t have any backbone.  In a game of chess, China is outplaying us.  We will feel these effects moreso in the long-term whereas if we tax China now, we can take some short-term pain for a brighter future all while paying off debt and not increasing taxes on our own people.

The question is how quickly will China change its tune if we stand up for ourselves?  Trump thinks pretty fast…I don’t know about that as our own people will surely question the actions when we lose cheap products from China.

Donald Trump for President?  If he keeps talking like this, I’d rather give him a shot at fixing our real problems than just another politician.  What do you think?

Better to tax the rich Americans.

what a stupid and self centered idea…inflation would soar and kick us back into another recession. Taxing China would not affect Trump’s real eastate so he couldn’t care less.
Trump has used bankruptcy to get out of his real estate debt and this idiot author wants him for President?

I wonder if The Donald ever heard of Smoot–Hawley.
Isn’t he still trying to stave-off bankruptcy?
This guy should stick to running beauty pageants and keep his mouth shut. The moron.

Really peter? You think not taxing China is going to avoid inflation and avoid another recession let alone it’s self centered and stupid? Very well said, very well. You must be short commodities. We will see how that short position works out in 2 years.

You either let China manipulate their currency and use mercantilism to gain all the money from us or you hope and pray everything just works itself out through being their friend and trying to negotiate with a cheater. You think any option we have is without pain?

If you are coaching your kids baseball team and the other teams coach cheats, are you going to invite that coach to your home, cook him dinner, talk about how great he is and then say, “I really think you should stop cheating cause it’s unfair?” You want to invite him into your home when he’s a known cheater, denies it, and has already replied at the past coaches meeting (G20 Summit in November, look it up) “worry about your own fragile economy instead our currency” indicating he isn’t going to stop cheating nor acknowledges it. Really Peter? What does this do Peter? This means we have to devalue our dollar more to create inflation to try and compete let alone ensure we don’t get overwhelmed with debt payments. It is not that complicated to grasp Peter. The research is available for you if you take the time to do your homework Peter.

Don’t worry though, we won’t be taxing China anytime soon. We are going to let them outplay us in this game of chess while we continue to be the biggest consumer in the world. You understand what that means right? That means China manipulates their currency lower, they export more to us through value-added goods that are higher priced than the raw goods we sell to them. That means we ultimately transfer our wealth to them since we consume and they produce the finished goods that we consume.

Your argument is that of someone who doesn’t grasp the situation and looks only at the short-term pain rather than trying to actually create a future for our kids and grand-kids. Talk about “self-centered and stupid.”

Interestingly enough that many are for taxing the rich in this country to solve our problems. Many in China have gotten quite rich by being an unfair trading partner with the US. The wealth has not trickled down to the workers in China. So why not tax the rich, in China?

This is the one scenario that would cause me to vote for Obama (my fingers are burning with hell fire from typing that notion). Many small businesses depend on Chinese imports and will be out of business. Trump is only for big business. He is actually guilty of everything whacko liberals falsely accuse Republicans of.

Taxing China is the right thing to do. The problem is our government is scared of starting a war with them. I come from a food background of importing goods from other countries. Here are some examples of taxes (aka duties) that I have to pay that the everyday consumer doesn’t know about.
Spanish goods – taxes on canned/glass olives, artichokes and peppers. Why – to protect California’s crops.
Italian goods – taxes on retail packed pasta and anything packed in oil. Bulk pasta (5 lb. bags) are duty free. There is a 100% duty on any type of Italian tomatoes packed in juice. That’s why you see them packed in puree because they’re considered “prepared”.
Turkish goods – pasta was recently duty free until this summer. Now it has a 9-10% tax.
South America – practically everything is free. Spain has been setting up shop there recently to pack peppers, artichokes and olives. Zero duty – great quality. Duty free to help their governments out.
Mexico – duty free with pasta. NAFTA helped them out. (North American Free Trade Agreement)

So why can’t we tax China? We don’t have any problem taxing every “civilized” country in Europe. Last time I looked, China was huge. Remember the olympics? I don’t see the olympics going to Honduras or Bolivia any time soon.

It all comes to politics, money and greed. The right thing to do is tax the junk they sell us. The food they export is made terrible. They used lead based paints for toys. They pay their workers less than $0.50 a day. If our American was all about equality and human rights, like we claim to be, we wouldn’t even allow Chinese goods to be for sale.

We don’t have a problem making Cuban goods illegal or allowing US citizens to go there. Cuba’s communist. China’s communist. What’s the difference? The difference is 1 billion Chinese people that have the backing of a huge army and nuclear weapons.

Speaking of Cuba, they produce the majority of sugar that we consume. Do we buy it from them? No. We buy it from Canada who buys it from Cuba.

It’s all a game….
